据说，官方媒体或者说绝大部分中国媒体向来秉承官方厚颜无耻的伟大传统。即便如此，在已经步入信息社会的今天，作为官方媒体之代表的新华网，竟如此公然对奥巴马总统的演讲进行思想审查和"阉割"，实在让人不寒而栗。
我要说的，不仅仅是他们把"fascism and communism"翻译成"法西斯主义"，选择性地遗忘"communism"。只是经由这起"意外事件"，让我突然想去拜读一下新华网对以下这段话的翻译：
"To those leaders around the globe who seek to sow conflict, or blame their society's ills on the West - know that your people will judge you on what you can build, not what you destroy. To those who cling to power through corruption and deceit and the silencing of dissent, know that you are on the wrong side of history".
（"世界上那些培植仇隙，或者把你们社会的罪恶归咎于西方的政府--你们要知道，你们的人民关心的是你做成了什么，而不是破坏了什么。那些依靠腐败、欺骗和镇压异见维持统治的政府，你们正与历史背道而驰"）
结果相当雷人：找遍新华网的翻译稿，居然找不到这段话。不仅如此，就连这段话所在的段落，以及紧接着的一个段落，都被悄无声响地"和谐"掉了。这两段话抄录并草译如下：
"To the Muslim world, we seek a new way forward, based on mutual interest and mutual respect. To those leaders around the globe who seek to sow conflict, or blame their society's ills on the West - know that your people will judge you on what you can build, not what you destroy. To those who cling to power through corruption and deceit and the silencing of dissent, know that you are on the wrong side of history; but that we will extend a hand if you are willing to unclench your fist.
