4日，在英國南約克郡火災推特上詳細講述了這個故事。求婚當天，他先是主動告訴女友，可以去接女友下班，要女友先別急著回家，接著他把事先買好的百根蠟燭逐一擺在家中各個角落、一一點燃，藉此營造美好的氣氛，另外他還下廚做了美味的牛排餐，也買了高級葡萄酒，希望晚餐時求婚大成功。

據南約克郡消防救援局說，週一，這個男人撇下燃燒中的數百根蠟燭，離家去接他的女朋友準備度過人生中的「重要時刻」，結果，無人看顧的蠟燭引發的大火點燃了他的房子。當這對情侶返回時，他們的婚房已被火焰吞沒了，幸運的是沒有人受傷。

Last night three crews were mobilised to a flat fire in Sheffield. They dealt with it quickly, as ever, before trying to establish what caused it.
So, a quick chat with the occupant revealed that this room had been filled with 100s of tea lights.

慶幸的是，女友並沒有因為這場火災拒絕男友的求婚，就在消防服務部門的辦公室裡，這個男人激動的向周圍人宣布：「她答應啦！」在場的工作人員都祝福這對情侶「一切順利」，並說工作人員期待收到結婚請柬。
